MAKING A HOME MY OWN

It all began with an idea.

To create a product I couldn’t find anywhere else in the market.

I’d moved back to the wonderful countryside of Somerset, of where I’m born and bred, and set about renovating a cottage with my husband.

I had been given a beautiful cowhide rug for my 30th birthday many years before and wished to have some soft furnishings to complement it in our new living room. I could find cushions easy enough, but no lampshade to do justice to my ancient oak lamp bases.

Having undertaken a shade making course, I went about creating my own, and there we have it, the very first cowhide lampshade was born!

My inspiration comes from growing up on a farm, my love of nature and passion for distinct designs. Through my education in textiles and penchant for the unusual, I fell upon creating my own cowhide lampshade which fitted perfectly into my style that combines contemporary and traditional.

I adore that each hide is totally unique and that so much beauty could be found in repurposing the material.

It’s also an incredibly durable material, which means the products can be passed through generations, and many don’t realise, they’re hypo-allergenic too.

Lastly, I love that the cows can still be appreciated in this way, long after they’re gone.
